Gehraiyaan Movie Review: Deepika Padukone Carries Shakun Batra’s Complex Love Story Impeccably

Gehraiyaan is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Wondering if you should take two and a half hours of your time to watch this love drama? Well, here is a brief review free of spoilers to let you decide about the movie!

Mashabale India

Since the release of its trailer, Gehraiyaan was successful in amassing the attention of netizens, especially after seeing hot on-screen chemistry between Siddhant Chaturvedi and Deepika Padukone through the trailers and various songs.

You might speculate that the film revolves around Alisha (Deepika Padukone) and Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi) who are unable to resist the instant spark between the two even when Zain is engaged with Alisha’s cousin Tia (Ananya Pandey).

However, the movie has much more drama waiting for you. It is not all figuring-out-who-you-wanna-be-with mess. From the trailer itself, you can see that Tia has crucial importance in Zain’s life as his professional life comes across to be running on Tia’s family business.

So, it is not going to be so easy for Zain and Alisha to be together. What unfolds are the dual aspects of Zain– one, where he craves to be with Alisha, and the other where he tries to keep his financial life stable.

You know the consequences of keeping your legs in two different boats, you either abandon one or accept your failure.

Alisha’s current relationship that has been going on for six long years seems to be crumbling down as her partner struggles to find success in his writing career and Alisha overworks to make both ends meet. On the contrary, Zain is constantly belittled by Tia’s mother as she can’t stop speaking of their favors to Zain.

The creators produced the right amount of pressure and fight needed to compel Alisha and Zain to act against their conscience.

When it comes to the storyline, it is perfectly paced settling all the intense moments and twists at the exact time. The filmmaker’s effort to recharge the story with secrets, mysteries, and past traumas seems to fail as it demonstrates a common progression of events- you can easily predict the ensuing action of the characters.

When it comes to the movie album, the songs are already trending and why wouldn’t they? The soothing tunes with profound lyrics add up to enhance the grace of the movie.

Filmi Beat

A famous song from the album goes “Tu Marz Hai, Dawa Bhi”( You are the disease, as well as the remedy) and that holds true for both Zain and Alisha.

The layered personality of the characters will not let you determine if they are good or bad. The closeness of their personality to that of a real-life human is the unique feature of the film.

Sure, you have seen sad endings and real-life events but Gehraiyaan is a fresh attempt to show reality through fiction.

KoiMoi

You will feel that this element of the movie drops as the story picks up after the interval and the confrontations of a troubled past and present begins.

The film excels in cinematography– with both a tranquil and gloomy setting to maintain the essence of stirring love and impending downfall in the life of these four people.

The complexity of emotions is also portrayed and reflected several times through flashbacks and scenic metaphors.

Zee News

Gehraiyaan does not require dialogues to illustrate the feelings, this is where the actor’s performance arrives on the scene. The “gehre” or profound emotions were wonderfully expressed by both Deepika and Siddhant.

Still, Deepika Padukone has the potential to carry the entire film by herself and she somewhat achieved the same whenever the film lacked the quality needed in the plot.
