For most of us, we’re still in the weird post-summer lull in which working a full 9 hours seems next to impossible. While the summer vacation gets over in July, the vacation mood persists. And this is when most of us are working-class people who don’t even get a summer vacation anymore.
But with the onset of monsoon season in India, comes the daily craving for chai and pakode (crispy vegetable fritters). Another intense craving during this season is for a holiday – just three or four days away from the ever-droning humdrum of our regular lives.
If you do manage to get, let’s say, four days away from work for a short vacation (or even a staycation in your own city!), we’ve got the best tips for you to maximize on it so that you get the most restful vacation possible. Follow these tips to come back rejuvenated from your mini-vacation.

1. Minimize the gadgets.
We’re sure you’re already aware of the numerous health issues caused by the constant use of phones and computers. Sleeping disorders and chronic neck pains are practically part of our lifestyle now. It’s understandable that you can’t ditch your devices during your working hours, especially in this digital age.
But when you’re on a vacation or just taking a break over a weekend, one of the best ways to relax is to get away from the gadgets. Turn off that phone (for a few hours at least) and give your laptop or tablet a rest. Just one day away from your devices will get you the best sleep, promise!
2. Carve out some “Me Time”.
Quality time with your own self is very important. Watch a movie or mini-series alone, and pick one that makes you feel deep, deep emotions (a good cry-fest). Read a book by the poolside. Play some online casino games (but gamble responsibly – always set a budget and stick to it). Get a massage if you have access to a spa, otherwise just indulge in a nice relaxing foot soak and face mask by yourself. Take a soothing warm bath.
The point is – pick a thing you like but haven’t done in a while because life keeps you busy and just do it. You don’t necessarily have to be alone for “me time” either.
3. Explore your surroundings.
Can you honestly claim that you’ve seen everything there is to see in your city? If you’re taking a staycation (while at home), why not do some sightseeing and get to know your own city? And if you’ve managed to get away from home and on a real vacation, the best thing you can do is explore the place you’re visiting.
Take a guided tour of the area’s historical monuments maybe, or go on a nature walk. You can even go on a picnic to a place that used to be your favourite haunt but where you haven’t been in a while. What’s a vacation without some sightseeing? That’s right, lame!
4. Have new experiences.
Ever been to a karaoke? Or gone swimming in the sea (only do this if you know how to swim confidently). Or been fishing? Or camping, trekking, rock climbing? Wherever you are taking your vacation or staycation, find out what kind of experiences that place offers.
Try doing a thing you haven’t done before. Sure-shot way of making your holiday a banging success. You might even end up meeting new people and making new friends!
