Ever since the release of Ms. Marvel, fans have been speculating about Fawad Khan’s role as he was rumored to be a part of this series. Farhan Akhtar, Mehwish Hayat, and Samina Ahmad marked their appearances in the series and the penultimate episode finally features another famous South Asian actor Fawad Khan.
After a peek at his picture from before the Partition shown by Sana to Kamala, the fourth episode ends with Kamala traveling back to the time of the partition.
The episode begins in undivided India in the year 1942 featuring Fawad Khan as Hasan, a flower seller who is also an independent activist and is seen talking about the rights of the Indians to a group of people.
As he raises slogans for Azaadi (Freedom), he is attacked by the Britishers. One thing results in another and he eventually meets Aisha who is also searching for shelter. The two gradually fall in love and Aisha gives birth to a baby who is actually Kamala’s grandmother Sana.
Najma is still looking for Aisha to snatch the bangle as it is connected with opening a portal to the Noor dimension.
Aisha sacrifices her own life and asks Hasan to take Sana with him and the two embark on the train which is often a part of Kamala’s visions.
At one point, Sana is separated from her father and Aisha asks for Kamala’s help to find her. We eventually get to know that it was Kamala who helped her great-grandmother to help find Sana.
The episode presents sizzling chemistry between Mehwish Hayat and Fawad Khan which has been successful in stealing the audience’s interest.
The creators were also careful while handling an issue as sensitive as the Partition. They have portrayed the anti-Muslim sentiments that swept the villages of India after the formation of Pakistan and the mass migration that followed.
Meanwhile, in the present time, Najma is still searching for a way to go back home. However, Kamala gives her a speech and makes her realize that home is where her family is and somehow the person who stabbed her friend and left her son behind on her mission listened to Kamala and gave up on her plan.
Thus, in the penultimate episode, we are left with no villain. The ClanDestine that entered into the picture with a fascinating connection with Djinns is now disappearing with Najma dying as well while transferring her powers to Kamran who is still in prison.
Nothing thrilling or interesting is left for the final episode with Aisha and Hasan out of the scene and the ClanDestines not being the enemies anymore.
Kamran meets Bruno and it may be possible that the next villain in line will be Kamran. However, it will still b too short for an episode or too long if they try to weave a new background altogether.
Muneeba, Kamala’s mother, finally knows the truth about Kamala’s powers. This confession has somehow impacted the strained relationship between the three generations with Kamala, Sana, and Muneeba embracing each other after clearing out their past issues.
The emotionally-driven story of the past was enough to keep the fans hooked on this episode but it does little for the future of this series.
With nothing thrilling or suspenseful left to have the fans waiting, we could only wish that the finale has something surprising waiting for us.
