The pair, who did not give reasons for their breakup, stated that they still have a great deal of love and respect for one another.
Momoa, 42, issued a joint statement on Instagram late Wednesday night (12 January) on behalf of himself and Bonet, who is not on social media.
“We’ve all felt the pinch and shifts of these transformative times,” the pair stated in a statement posted to Momoa’s Instagram account on Wednesday.
“A revolution is taking place, and our family is no exception… we are feeling and growing as a result of the seismic shifts that are taking place.”
“As a result, we communicate our family news: that we are divorcing.” We’re sharing this not because it’s breaking news, but so that we may live our lives with dignity and honesty.”
“I can’t say it was full-on from the moment we saw each other,” Lisa said of their instant chemistry. “But we have been together from the day we met.” She said, “Love struck, and it struck hard, and he did not flee, as I believe many men do. He really grabbed me up and tossed me over his shoulder, like a caveman.”
The actors met in a Los Angeles jazz bar in 2004 and have two children together: Lola, a daughter, and Nakoa-Wolf, a son. The Aquaman star also aided actress Zoe Kravitz, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Grammy winner Lenny Kravitz, with her upbringing.

Momoa and Bonet stated that the choice to publicly announce their separation was made so that “as we go about our lives, we may do so with dignity and honesty,” rather than because “it’s newsworthy.”
“Our love evolves in ways it wishes to be recognised and lived,” the pair wrote in a joint statement, adding that “we free each other to be who we are growing to become…”
Momoa previously admitted to having a long-standing infatuation with The Cosby Show alum.
“Ever since I was like eight years old and I saw her on the TV, I was like, ‘Mommy, I want that one ,'” he remarked on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017.
The following year, Bonet told Porter that the couple had been together “since the day they met,” when they had a lunch of Guinness and grits.
She lauded Momoa at the time, calling him “a rare sort of masculinity in this day and age.”
Lola Iolani Momoa, 14, and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa, 13, are the couple’s children. She also has a 33-year-old daughter with Lenny Kravitz, whom she married from 1987 until 1993.
Momoa, who rose to fame after playing Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, is said to be close friends with both Zo and Lenny Kravitz.
Along with the statement’s text, the actor shared photographs of a sunset sky, a person holding a newborn bird, and a person wearing a shirt that read, “May my spirit proclaim love.” May my soul shout love”.
