Since the arrival of Ms. Marvel fans has been celebrating the distinct and genuine representation of South Asian culture in the series with the lead, Kamala Khan, trying to fulfil her family commitments while learning about her new powers.

Our teenage superhero is torn between planning for Aamir’s wedding and Mehendi ceremony and finding out the truth about the ‘ClanDestine’ group that has come forward to ask for her help.

The show begins portraying a sequence from 1942 where in British-occupied India, Najma and Kamala’s grandmother, Aisha, are searching for the bangle.

The previous episode showed that Najma, Kamran’s mother, was the same woman that Kamala has been seeing in her dreams. With the British soldiers chasing the two, Najma and Aisha part ways with the latter carrying the bangle with her.

Najma weaves a story that they are a family from another dimension who were put to exile and need Kamala’s help to get back to their dimension. Kamala too is related with this group who call themselves “ClanDestine” or to Kamala’s disappointment “Djinn.”

Najma tells that she too belongs to this group. They all have the power suppressed inside them called “Noor” but only Kamala was able to channel it outside the ClanDestine dimension.

She explains that it was her grandmother’s wish to get back home and Kamala must finish what she started.

Islamic mythology finds its way into the episode with Kamala being shocked and upset that her origins are not from Asgard but rather from a portion of her childhood nightmares. All the Muslim children have grown up hearing scary Jinn stories so it is definitely not Kamala’s fault.

She tells the entire story to Bruno who warns her that the Clandestine might have more to them than what they are showing and asks her to learn more about the interdimensional pathway before taking any step.

However, the group becomes forceful pushing Kamala to do it and revealing that what Najma was telling may not be entirely true.

Nakia tells Kamala about the search at the mosque by Agent Deever from D.O.D.C. The third episode connects several things speeding up the pace and giving us the story development we wanted.

Anyhow, it still has a lot of desi culture to enjoy with Aamir’s Mehendi Ceremony and our superhero’s performance on Bollywood tracks. The lavish Indian wedding is wonderfully portrayed giving us Desi Vibes.

All is going well until Najma, sensing Kamala’s reluctance, decides to launch an attack on her during the wedding.

The episode ends with Najma’s grand mother in the present-day calling her to Karachi saying that she too saw the train in her vision.

What comes as a surprise for many Indian and Pakistani fans was that Aisha’s role is actually played by a very popular pakistani actress Samina Ahmad, you may recall her playing Bijaan in Suno Chanda.

Destined has to be the most interesting episode out of the three raising the bar really high. From relating the events to the Partition to linking powers with Mythology, this episode is stuffed with several things together but still ends up being amazing.

The next episode will show whether Kamala is going to Pakistan or Aisha coming to New Jersey.

It will also portray the truth behind Najma and her gang being exiled and the mystery associated with the second bangle which was never found.
