Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ehsan Mani has asserted that ‘all is well between India and Pakistan at the International Cricket Council (ICC) during the ICC board meeting held on Monday over ICC’s election process to elect the new chairperson.
The position of a chairperson has fallen vacant after Shashank Manohar steps down as ICC chairman on June 30. He became the first ICC’s independent chairman in 2016. After this, the global body’s deputy chairman Imran Khwaja undertaking the responsibilities of chairperson until a new chairperson is elected.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is willing to build a general agreement for the next ICC chairperson. It is expected that Manohar’s successor can be someone from India.
Ehsan Mani said that “The relationship between the boards (BCCI & PCB) is very good even today. Some very good people represent India at the ICC, both at the Board level and the chief executive level. Unfortunately, as far as cricket relationship is concerned, that is a political matter. Hopefully, the politician will realise that it’s very important to resume cricket between the countries. Beyond that, I can’t say much.”
The ICC board comprises of 17 directors in which 12 are full members, three directors representing the associates (Malaysia, Scotland, and Singapore), the interim chairman Khwaja, the ICC chief executive officer Manu Sawhney and Independent female director Indra Nooyi.
The chief executive officer Manu Sawhney doesn’t have a vote and for any resolution to be approved, the ICC constitution currently requires a minimum of 11 votes or a two-thirds majority for electing the new chairperson but it is expected that it will be done through general consensus.
