On December 24, 2021, the long-awaited, much-hyped, big-ticket biographical sports film 83 was released in theatres. People who couldn’t make it to the theatre to see the film, which is based on India’s maiden World Cup victory under the leadership of Kapil Dev in 1983, are asking if they would be able to watch it on OTT services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar, among others.

Kabir Khan, who directed Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), is in charge of the direction. The makers of 83: The Film recently posted a trailer on social media sites, touting the narrative as “One of the Biggest Underdog Stories in Sports History.” An interesting fact regarding the 1983 World Cup is that no film of Kapil Dev’s unbroken 175 against Zimbabwe in the group stage match exists.
So, it’ll be interesting to watch how the filmmaker filmed that scenario, which every cricket fan would want to see together with the entire story of winning the championship! Ranveer Singh did an excellent job as skipper Kapil; he really got into the skin of the character. The film makes you chuckle while also filling you with pride, giving you chills. The film is garnering good reviews, with everyone praising it for its excellence.
The Scheduled Release Date
The film was originally set to be released in April 2020, however duef the Covid-19 epidemic, the release date was pushed back to Christmas. The film was rescheduled for June 2021, but due to the unexpected surge of Covid-19 cases in the country, the makers decided to release it on December 24 in all five languages, including dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
OTT Release Date Of 83
In terms of its digital release, the film’s makers recently released a motion poster with the Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar logos inscribed on it, indicating that the film’s post-theatrical digital rights have been acquired by the two leading streaming platforms Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, according to many reports.
As a result, ’83 is likely to debut on digital platforms four weeks following its theatrical release, similar to previous films such as Thalaivi, Bell Bottom, and others.
