Akka, the new Netflix crime series starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, premieres worldwide on Thursday 30 October 2026. Produced by YRF Entertainment and written and directed by debutant Dharmaraj Shetty, it is a 1980s gangster saga set in a fictional kingdom where women hold all the power, and it is Keerthy Suresh’s first signed Hindi project.

What is Akka about?
The story is set in Pernuru, a fictional coastal province ruled and protected by generations of women. Keerthy Suresh plays Bhavani, the head of the syndicate that controls the region. Radhika Apte plays Rudra, an outsider whose ambitions threaten the order Bhavani has built.

The trailer, launched at an event in Mumbai last week, sets up a direct face-off between the two. The series deals with power, loyalty, family and revenge.

Who made it
Dharmaraj Shetty writes and directs, with Aditya Chopra as executive producer. Dialogue is by Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal, action by Sunil Rodrigues, production design by Laxmi Keluskar and music by John Stewart Eduri. It is the next YRF series on streaming after The Railway Men and Mandala Murders.
What the cast said
Speaking at the trailer launch, Keerthy Suresh called it “a never-seen-before world” and said the idea of two women against each other drew her in. “When Dharma came to me to narrate ‘Akka’, I didn’t know what I was signing for,” she said, adding that she decided to do it the minute she finished hearing the first episode.
She also said this was the first project she signed in Hindi, although her Hindi film debut, Baby John, reached theatres first in 2024. On her character, she said Bhavani “is a woman who knows what she stands for and will go to great lengths to protect her legacy.”
Radhika Apte called it “an absolute joy to share the screen with Keerthy” in bringing their face-off to life. Shetty said he wanted to give the gangster genre “a world with its own rules”.
Why Akka is the big OTT pick this week
It lands on the busiest Netflix day before Diwali, alongside Meethe Mein Kya Hai and Sigma, and a week before Ramayana: Part 1 takes over theatres. A female-led gangster drama from a major studio is still rare in Indian streaming, which is why the trailer drew attention.
