Netflix is known for its original teenage rom-coms, and The Kissing Booth trilogy has been one of its flag bearers. While many would find it too cliché and at times even cringy, nobody can deny that it’s a good I-want-to-watch-something-happy-but-don’t-know-what-pick movie.
The Kissing Booth trilogy comes to an end with its final movie on Wednesday 11th August 2021. The Joey King, Joel Courtney, Jacob Elordi and Taylor Zakhar Perez starter franchise has had moments, especially with the social media generation. It is a typical Wattpad high school romantic comedy with some very unrealistic and over-glorified moments of romance. It serves best as a feel-good movie that requires no brain and can be enjoyed on a day that feels sinking low.
The Vince Marcello directed trilogy follows the story of two birth-buddies (literally, because they share their birthdays), Elle and Lee, who do everything together. They have together compiled a rule book which they vow to follow. But Elle soon breaks one of the rules, ’ family is off limits’, when she starts dating Lee’s older brother Noah. The story that spans across three films focuses primarily on how their dynamics change when life throws different situations to tackle.
While these characters seem very unrealistic at times, there are human facets. And even if they don’t, who wouldn’t love to have a Noah or a Lee in their life, or perhaps both? Well, that’s very unlikely, but it doesn’t hurt to give it a thought. So if given a choice, who would you choose, Noah or Lee?
Let’s chalk out some points to weigh our options:
Point 1: Noah is good looking, to say the least.
Counterpoint 1: Lee is, if not more, equally good looking, especially in the second movie where he is a little more grown-up.
Table of Contents
Result: Noah= 1; Lee=1.
It’s a tie.
Point 2: Noah has the ‘bad boy with a golden heart’ aura.
Counterpoint 2: Lee is the funny, goofy, always in for the crazy best friend.
Result: Noah= 1; Lee= 2.
Come on! We’ve all had enough of the bad boy characters; here’s to more crazy best friends.
Lee is leading.
Point 3: Lee is a great dancing partner.
Counterpoint 3: Noah is a great bike riding partner, and if that wasn’t enough, he could teach you how to ride it yourself.
Result: Noah= 2; Lee= 2.
Well, Dance Dance Mania is all fine, but who doesn’t want to ride a bike?
There it goes, tied again.
Point 4: Lee is vulnerable, soft, understanding and expressive.
Counterpoint 4: Noah pretends to be the hard rock guy but is a real softie inside.
Result: Noah= 2; Lee= 3.
Okay, my justification: we’re so done with people pretending to be something they are not just to keep up the image that’s been created. Now is the time to be real and embrace who you are.
Lee is leading again.
Point 5: Noah, no matter what happens, wants the best for Elle. Even distancing himself to protect Elle and Lee’s friendship.
Counterpoint 5: Lee would go any length just to see Elle happy.
Result: Noah= 3; Lee= 3.
Fine! At the end of the day, Noah’s a sweetheart.
Final result: It’s a tie. We’re gonna have a hard time choosing between the two, just like Elle did in The Kissing Booth 2.
But what really happens in the third movie? Whom would she pick? Harvard of Berkeley? Noah or Lee? (And let’s not forget Marco!)
Well, for all the answers, watch The Kissing Booth 3, now streaming on Netflix.
