The comedies today as on big screens are not often classified as sticking true to the themes. They are at times aberrant from the very purpose. The newer ones are arrant nonsense with gratuitous innuendos and filthy prejudices.
But Bollywood has not always been such. There are still gems embellished to its names. In comedies specifically, the comic timings and the dialogical amusements are worth approbation. Of course, there is a reason why they are called classic comedies.
Let’s have a look at some of these from the proud 70s and 80s as rated by IMDB.
Table of Contents
1. GolMaal (1979) – 8.5 Rating
This superhit movie with plausible performances and catchy countenance definitely deserved to earn the top name. 2. Jane Bhi Do Yaro (1983)- 8.4 Rating
The movie has all the reasons to be a must-watch. With legendary cast ensemble including Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Satish Kaushik and many, the movie will keep you fixated with not just an insanely funny plot but the cynical undertones throughout. Absurdism at its acumen and art at its peak is a rare combination. Watch it to know the truth of a post-truth world.
3. Angoor (1982)- 8.3 Rating
With a script inspired by Shakespeare’s Comedy Of Errors, the movie is a complete family entertainer. The actings by Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma seems like perfectionist illusions. The movies listed above at the very least distinguish with flying colours the nuances and subtleties of a good comedy. The cinema no doubt has ameliorated and aggrandized in every aspect but with the reasons which are ostensible old is most of times gold.
