After a false media report came out, Dil Bechara actress Swastika Mukherjee opened up about the threats that she received on Instagram, involving threats of acid attack and rape. Swastika was threatened online right after the false report claiming that she had said ‘suicides are now in fashion’ surfaced.
The actress stood up against cyberbully and got both the person, responsible for the false media report and the person who sent her acid attack and rape threats. She also expressed her gratitude for the Kolkata Police’s cybercrime department.
Two days ago, the actress took to her Instagram and Twitter and wrote a note, “On June 26, days after my co-actor in the upcoming movie Dil Bechara Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death, there was a media report which falsely quoted me as saying that suicides are now in fashion. Following this, there were fierce online attacks on me including rape and death threats.”
Mukherjee gave details of the arrests of both the accused on her social media handle. Shuvam Chakraborty from Galsi, Bardhaman, Bengal, has been arrested by the Kolkata cyber crime department. He has confessed to having carried the false quote on the news portal, www.smritinews.in and circulated it on social media which sparked the threats. And the other arrested, Koushik Das from Hooghly, has also accepted his denunciations of sending acid attack and rape threats to the actress based on the fraudulent news.
Quoting Swastika Mukherjee, “Both of them have surrendered in court. Many of us, irrespective of our gender, face vicious cyber-attacks which can sometimes snowball into real threats. At the least, this causes a great deal of mental agony and harm to the individuals and their families. I would like to urge people to muster courage and report such situations to law enforcement”.
She ended her note by thanking the cyber crime’s department of Kolkata Police and wrote, “Cyber-bullying is not acceptable. If it is happening with you, please speak up and expose the cyber-bullies. The police and other law enforcement agencies will help you to the best of their abilities. I take this moment to thank the Kolkata Cyber Crime department, and personally express my gratitude for Mr Nurul Absar, officer-in-charge, Cyber PS Lal Bazaar, Ms Shukla Sinha, inspector of Police Cyber Crime, and Mr Raja Saha, Sub-Inspector, Cyber Crime department. – Swastika Mukherjee.”
Swastika Mukherjee will be seen playing the role Sanjana Sanghi’s mother in the upcoming movie Dil Bechara – the last film of Sushant Singh Rajput, which will have a direct-to-digital release on July 24.
