The Dutch Cricketer Who Would Have Been Playing T20 World Cup is Delivering Uber Eats

As the whole world is still managing to cope up with the effects of lockdown, everyone had their own setbacks during this unexpected hard times. The lockdown had shifted many major events on further scheduling to 2021; ICC T20 World Cup which was earlier scheduled to start from 15th November being one of them.

Paul Van Meekeren wrote on his Twitter quoting the ICC T20 World Cup, “Should’ve been playing cricket today, now I’m delivering Uber eats to get through the winter months!! Funny how things change, hahaha keep smiling people.”

The Right-Arm Fast Medium bowler has been playing for the Netherlands International Cricket Team from 2013. He is in the squad which is to represent his country in ICC T20 World Cup, Australia. If it wasn’t COVID-19, the T20 World Cup would have been already started on 15th November at the prestigious location of Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

As sports events including cricket put on halt during the pandemic, Van Meekeren left with no choice but deliver food for Uber Eats to make it through the winters. The unexpected postponement of the T20 World Cup has left him in a difficult situation but still, the Netherlands International stood strong and shared a message saying, “Funny how things change, Keep smiling people.”

Paul Van Meekeren has debuted for the Netherlands International Cricket Team in T20I against Kenya. One month later, he also made ODIs against South Africa on 31 May 2013. He drew attention to himself during the ICC World Cup Twenty20 India in 2016 when he produced a spell of 4 wickets for 11 runs against Ireland at HPCA Stadium, Dharmashala. The 27-year-old cricketer has 47 wickets in 41 T20 matches with a decent economy of 6.94 playing for his country.

We hope things get better all over the world soon and Paul Van Meekeren along with all the sportsmen & sportswomen in the world get back on their respective fields to make it smooth through these rough times. Along with ICC 20 World Cup, the Summer Olympic in Tokyo, Japan was also postponed to 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic.
