Ramayana advance booking: the numbers so far

| India gross (without blocks) | Rs 48.84 crore |

| Shows listed | 47,148 |
| Added in last 24 hours | Rs 21.61 crore |
| Day 1 (5 Nov) pre-sales | Rs 28.50 crore |

Why bookings suddenly picked up
Advance bookings opened on Dussehra, 15 October, but sales were slow at first. According to Glamsham, they rose sharply after revenue-sharing talks between the distributor and exhibitors were settled last Friday, which opened up more shows across chains.
The same report puts overseas pre-sales at about $5 million by Tuesday morning, including more than $1.5 million from US paid previews. North American paid previews are scheduled for 4 November. Glamsham notes that only a few Indian films, such as Baahubali 2, RRR, Pushpa 2 and Dhurandhar 2, have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in advance bookings.
Hindi leads, 3D dominates
The film releases in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Hindi accounts for the bulk of sales so far:
- Hindi: Rs 52.24 crore (83%)
- Kannada: Rs 5.55 crore (9%)
- Telugu: Rs 4.13 crore (7%)
- Tamil and Malayalam: under Rs 1 crore combined
Kannada sales beating Telugu and Tamil is likely linked to Yash, who plays Ravana and whose Monster Mind Creations co-produces the film. By format, 3D shows have brought in Rs 36.14 crore, or 58% of the total. IMAX 3D accounts for Rs 9.04 crore and is running at 55% occupancy, far above the overall average of 15%.
Godzilla clash pushed back in India
Godzilla Minus Zero was set to arrive the same week and compete for IMAX screens. A report on 28 October said its India release has reportedly been moved by about two weeks, leaving Ramayana with most premium large-format screens in its opening days. This has not been officially announced.
