Below are 10 key moments, with season and episode numbers, plus where to stream the show in India.

Why Los Pollos Hermanos matters in Breaking Bad

Los Pollos Hermanos is the fried chicken chain owned by Gustavo “Gus” Fring, played by Giancarlo Esposito. On the surface it is a friendly family restaurant that even sponsors the DEA’s charity events. Underneath, its trucks, farms and batter tubs move Gus’s meth across the Southwest.

The chain’s parent company, Madrigal Electromotive, is a German firm, which is how the story later reaches all the way to Europe. In real life, the restaurant scenes were shot at a Twisters outlet in Albuquerque, which still draws fans today.

Top 10 scenes of Breaking Bad that involve Los Pollos Hermanos

1. Walt and Gus meet for the first time (Season 2, Episode 11, “Mandala”)

Walt waits at Los Pollos Hermanos to meet a distributor, but Jesse turns up late and high. The next day Walt returns and waits until closing, and realises the polite man he took for the manager is the distributor himself. Gus tells him he does not deal with drug addicts and warns Walt never to trust one. It is the start of the show’s most important partnership.

2. Walt says he is out, Gus says $3 million (Season 3, Episode 1, “No Más”)

Walt walks into the restaurant to tell Gus he is leaving the meth business. Gus calmly offers him $3 million for three months of work. Walt turns it down here, but the offer hangs over the next few episodes until he finally accepts in “Más”.

3. Gus visits the hospital with free chicken (Season 3, Episode 8, “I See You”)

After the Salamanca cousins attack Hank, Gus arrives at the hospital carrying trays of Los Pollos Hermanos food as a show of support for the DEA. He chats warmly with Walt’s family. Minutes later, the surviving cousin dies, and Mike is seen quietly getting rid of a syringe. It is one of the clearest pictures of how Gus works: in plain sight.

4. The commercial and the batter tubs (Season 3, Episode 9, “Kafkaesque”)

The episode opens with a cheerful Los Pollos Hermanos TV advertisement about family recipes and fresh chicken. It then cuts to Gus’s chicken farm, where workers pack bags of blue meth into fry batter tubs that go out on the chain’s trucks. The contrast is the joke, and also the business model.

5. Mike rides in the truck (Season 4, Episode 4, “Bullet Points”)

Mike hides in the back of a Los Pollos Hermanos refrigerated truck. Two cartel gunmen force it off the road, kill the driver and shoot up the cargo hold. When they open the doors, Mike kills both. He walks away with a bullet graze on his ear.

6. Hank and the napkin (Season 4, Episode 5, “Shotgun”)

Going through evidence from Gale Boetticher’s apartment, Hank spots a Los Pollos Hermanos napkin. Gale was a vegan, so why would he eat fried chicken? It is a small detail, and it is the thread that leads Hank to Gus.

7. The cartel hits a truck (Season 4, Episode 6, “Cornered”)

The cartel strikes again, pumping exhaust fumes into a Los Pollos Hermanos truck, killing two guards and stealing one marked batter container. Mike and Jesse later recover it, and the message inside makes it clear the cartel wants to talk.

8. Hank gets Gus’s fingerprints (Season 4, Episode 7, “Problem Dog”)

Hank takes Walter Jr. to Los Pollos Hermanos and manages to pick up Gus’s fingerprints from a soda cup. He then shows the DEA that the prints match those found in Gale’s apartment. Walt can only watch as the net tightens around his boss.

9. The GPS tracker (Season 4, Episode 8, “Hermanos”)

Hank tricks Walt into driving him to the restaurant so Walt can put a GPS tracker on Gus’s car. Walt goes inside and tells Gus. Gus, unbothered, tells Walt to go ahead and plant it. Walt does, on his way back to the car.

10. Peter Schuler’s last day (Season 5, Episode 2, “Madrigal”)

After Gus’s death, the story jumps to Germany. At Madrigal, executive Peter Schuler watches the company drop the Los Pollos Hermanos brand. When police arrive to question him about his ties to Gus, he takes his own life in a bathroom. It shows how far Gus’s chicken empire reached.

Bonus: Los Pollos Hermanos in Better Call Saul

The prequel Better Call Saul returns to the restaurant in Season 3, Episode 2, “Witness” (2017). Mike sends Jimmy McGill inside to watch a courier. Jimmy ends up digging through the bin, and Gus himself comes over to help him look for a “lost” watch. Gus’s knowing look as Jimmy and Mike drive away is a great nod to fans of the original show. Corrections from our earlier version

An earlier version of this list said Hank’s shooting was staged. It was not: the Salamanca cousins really tried to kill him. We have also replaced a scene about the cousins visiting the restaurant, which we could not match to an episode, with the verified “Cornered” truck heist.
