Sonu Nigam was born on 30 July 1973 in Faridabad and started singing on stage as a child with his father, Agam Kumar Nigam. Over three decades he has recorded thousands of songs in Hindi and several other languages. He won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Kal Ho Naa Ho and received the Padma Shri in 2022.

The song got a new life in January 2026, when Border 2 released with Ghar Kab Aaoge, a recreated version sung by Sonu Nigam with Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh and Vishal Mishra. Sonu described returning to the song as a homecoming.

2. Suraj Hua Maddham (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001)

This romantic duet with Alka Yagnik was composed by Sandesh Shandilya for Karan Johar’s family drama. It was picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol near the pyramids in Egypt.

Sonu’s soft, controlled vocals carry the long, slow melody, and it remains one of the most requested songs at his concerts.

3. Saathiya (Saathiya, 2002)

5. Kal Ho Naa Ho (Kal Ho Naa Ho, 2003)

This Shankar Ehsaan Loy composition, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, won Sonu the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. It plays through the Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan film and has become a standard song about living in the moment.
