Bollywood has produced films on almost every event in history, ranging from heartbreaking love stories to amazing action thrillers to lighthearted college comedies.
However, these collegiate films screwed with our thoughts; they led us to assume things that were far from reality.

Here are some unfair college expectations that Bollywood needs to apologize for:
1. THAT YOU’LL HAVE A DRAMATIC LOVE STORY – Rockstar
Because of Rockstar, a group of us believed that to truly compose music, we needed to be in pain.
So, being kicked out of our families, falling in love with the hottest girl in school, following her to her Kashmiri wedding, making it big, having an affair with her, and then adoring her until the day she dies…is thoda ridiculous.
2. THAT TEACHERS ARE AS HOT AS SUSHMITA SEN – Main Hoon Na
You should have gone to my university. There wasn’t a single teacher who came close. Sushmita’s saris were designed for Bollywood actresses, not science professors.
But if any of my college professors had dressed up in a gorgeous saree and looked like Miss Universe 1994, I would have had a packed house.
3. THAT YOU’LL MEET THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE – Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
We all spent college waiting for the guy who would get us a new cat after our old one died because Aditi and Jay were such relationship goals.
Alternatively, you may wait for a female who is as strong and amusing as she is attractive. What’s this, Bollywood? Not everyone finds the love of their life in college.
4. THAT SENIORS ARE GENERALLY HORRIBLE BULLIES – 3 Idiots
I’m not sure about your institution, but there were only two kinds of seniors in mine: the first was uninterested and didn’t even glance at us, and the second was incredibly lovely and helpful, even becoming friends with us!
While I understand that ragging is still prevalent in many colleges, not all seniors are evil. In my personal experience.
5. THAT EVERYONE WILL JUST BREAK OUT INTO SONG AND DANCE – Mohabbatein
In Bollywood films, every college student appears to be on acid because they all have the vitality of 5-year-old children.
We’re all fatigued from lack of sleep, train travel, and general melancholy, so no youngster has this much stamina to burst out into coked-up dance sequences.
6. THAT ONE STUDENT WILL BE A LOVABLE BHAI WHO GIVES JAADU KI JHAPPIYAN – Munna Bhai MBBS
In my classrooms, I wish I had a Munnabhai. He would have provided nonstop amusement and a welcome change from dull instructors droning on about dull subjects.
And on exam day, I could have used a jadoo ki jhappi.
7. THAT FASHIONABLE CLOTHING IS ALLOWED – Student of the Year
The trend in Bollywood college films irritates me greatly. We weren’t allowed to display our hands, elbows, arms, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, or anything else in college.
And here these females are, strutting around in the latest fashions, including sultry skirts and shirts.
You know, I could have become a fashionista as well. My outdated, patriarchal college is to a fault.
8. THAT THERE’S NO STUDYING AT ALL…JUST CHILLING – Fukrey
College is a difficult and important time in most of our lives, dude. It is during this time that we study the most and must make major life decisions about what we want to do with our lives and futures.
So it’s phony when all these ‘hep’ college students just go about their academic life chilling, playing the guitar, chit-chatting at the canteen, breaking out into song and dance, or scamming millions into creating a bogus institution.
9. THAT YOU’LL HAVE A GREAT BUSINESS ACUMEN EVEN WHEN YOU’RE 18 IN COLLEGE – Band Baaja Baarat
In Band Baaja Baaraat, Shruti, Anushka Sharma’s character, comes up with the wedding planning idea IN COLLEGE.
This means that while the rest of us were over-sleeping, over-drinking, and over-eating, Shruti started a successful business of her own, which eventually expanded into a large corporation. Unfair.
When we’re in college, most of us can’t even manage to have breakfast. How did Shruti run a business all on her own?
10. ONLY REALISTIC EXPECTATION: THAT YOU MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE
This is the only reasonable expectation we have for our college years. Friendships formed in college last a lifetime.
You’ve lived together, shared the good and bad times, grown up together, partied together, cried together, and always been there for each other.
These are the friends who will be there for you at every turn, from weddings to funerals to professional accomplishments. Friendships formed in college last a lifetime.
