1. Minissha Lamba
Minissha Lamba made her debut in Shoojit Sircar’s Yahaan (2005), after the director spotted her during an ad shoot. She went on to do Corporate (2006), Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007), Kidnap (2008) and Well Done Abba (2010).
Her biggest hit was Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) with Ranbir Kapoor. After Bheja Fry 2 (2011), lead roles dried up. Her most recent listed work is the Amazon miniTV series Badtameez Dil (2023).
2. Bhumika Chawla
Bhumika Chawla started in Telugu films with Yuvakudu (2000) and became a star with Kushi (2001), which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in Telugu. Her Hindi debut, Tere Naam (2003) with Salman Khan, was one of that year’s biggest hits.
Hindi offers did not keep pace, but she never stopped working. She played MS Dhoni’s sister in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), and recent credits include Sita Ramam (2022), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) and the Tamil film Brother (2024). 3. Kim Sharma
Kim Sharma came from ad films and was one of the young faces launched in Yash Raj’s Mohabbatein (2000). The role won her the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year (Female).
She later appeared in Tum Se Achcha Kaun Hai (2002), the Telugu film Khadgam (2002), Fida (2004) and a Pakistani film, Godfather (2007). Her screen career ended around 2010. In 2021, she confirmed her relationship with tennis star Leander Paes on Instagram, as reported by Indian Express.
4. Tanushree Dutta
Tanushree Dutta won Femina Miss India Universe in 2004 and represented India at Miss Universe that year. She entered Bollywood in 2005 with Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Chocolate, and later did Bhagam Bhag and Dhol.
In 2018, she alleged that Nana Patekar harassed her on the set of Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss (2009). Her statement became a key moment in India’s MeToo movement. In 2019, Mumbai Police filed a closure (B-summary) report in the case, and Patekar has denied the allegations. She has stayed away from film work since.
5. Rimi Sen
Rimi Sen began in Bengali and Telugu cinema before her Hindi debut in Priyadarshan’s Hungama (2003), which earned her a Filmfare nomination for Best Female Debut. She then featured in big hits: Dhoom (2004), Phir Hera Pheri (2006) and Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006).
She was a contestant on Bigg Boss 9 in 2015. Under her real name, Subhamitra Sen, she produced Budhia Singh: Born to Run, which won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film. NDTV reported in January 2026 that she now works as a real estate agent in Dubai.
6. Mamta Kulkarni
Mamta Kulkarni was one of the most talked-about actresses of the 1990s. She won the Filmfare Lux New Face of the Year award for Aashiq Awara (1993) and starred in Krantiveer (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995) and Baazi (1995).
Her career slowed after a public dispute with director Rajkumar Santoshi during China Gate (1998), and she quit films after Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum (2002). In January 2025, she took sanyas at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and was made a Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada, a post she lost within days after objections inside the akhada.
7. Sneha Ullal
Sneha Ullal was launched by Salman Khan in Lucky: No Time for Love (2005), and her resemblance to Aishwarya Rai made headlines. After Aryan (2006) failed, she shifted to Telugu films and found success with Ullasamga Utsahamga (2008) and Simha (2010).
She took a long break after 2014 and said in 2017 that a health condition had kept her away. She has since returned in smaller projects, including the ZEE5 series Expiry Date (2020) and the Hindi film Love You Loktantra (2022).
Why do Bollywood actresses fade away?
