The best dialogues from Chhichhore are the ones about failure, effort and friendship: “Tumhara result decide nahi karta ki tum loser ho ki nahi”, “Success ke baad ka plan sabke paas hai” and “Doosron se haar ke loser kehlane se zyada bura hai, khud se haar ke loser kehlana”. Here are 11 lines worth remembering, with meanings and context.

Chhichhore released in theatres on 6 September 2019. Nitesh Tiwari directed it and co-wrote it with Piyush Gupta and Nikhil Mehrotra, and Sajid Nadiadwala produced it. The film stars the late Sushant Singh Rajput as Anniruddh “Anni” Pathak and Shraddha Kapoor as Maya, with Varun Sharma, Naveen Polishetty, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Tushar Pandey, Saharsh Kumar Shukla and Prateik Babbar as the H4 hostel gang.

The story moves between two timelines. In the present, Anni’s teenage son Raghav is in hospital after attempting suicide over his entrance exam result. In the past, Anni and his friends fight to shed the “losers” tag of their hostel during a college sports championship. The film won the National Film Award for Best Hindi Film at the 67th National Film Awards.

11 best dialogues from Chhichhore

1. “Success ke baad ka plan sabke paas hai, lekin agar galti se fail ho gaye toh failure se kaise deal karna hai, koi nahi baat karta.”

Meaning: Everyone has a plan for success, but nobody talks about how to deal with failure.

Context: Anni says this after Raghav’s suicide attempt. It is the line that sums up the whole film, and parents still share it during board and entrance exam season.

2. “Tumhara result decide nahi karta ki tum loser ho ki nahi, tumhari koshish decide karti hai.”

Meaning: Your result does not decide if you are a loser. Your effort does.

Context: Anni tells his son that the marks on a result sheet are not a verdict on his worth. This is the most quoted line from the film.

3. “Doosron se haar ke loser kehlane se kahin zyada bura hai, khud se haar ke loser kehlana.”

Meaning: Being called a loser after losing to others is bad, but losing to yourself is much worse.

Context: This comes from the college timeline, when the H4 gang decides to compete seriously instead of giving up before the championship starts.

4. “Hum haar jeet, success failure mein itna uljh gaye hain ki zindagi jeena bhool gaye hain.”

Meaning: We are so caught up in winning, losing, success and failure that we have forgotten how to live.

Context: A present-day line that questions the pressure young people face. It works as a reminder that life is bigger than one exam.

5. “Pata nahi kya jaadu hai college life mein, jahan anjaane milte hain aur dost ban jaate hain, zindagi bhar ke liye.”

Meaning: College life has some magic. Strangers meet there and become friends for life.

Context: This line captures the reunion portion of the film, when the old hostel friends come together years later to sit with Anni at the hospital.

6. “Sacche dost wahi hote hain jo acche waqt mein aapki bajaate hain, aur mushkil waqt mein wahi Chhichhore saath khade hote hain.”

Meaning: True friends tease you in good times, and in hard times the same jokers stand by you.

Context: A tribute to the friendship at the heart of the film. Sexa, Acid, Derek, Mummy and Bevda drop everything when Anni needs them.

7. “I am a failure, mera kuch nahi ho sakta.”

Meaning: I am a failure, nothing will come of me.

Context: This is the mindset the film argues against. Raghav believes he is a failure, and the rest of the story shows him that success rarely comes at the first attempt.

8. “Kya ukhaad lega hostel change karke? Acche room mein reh lega, accha khana kha lega.”

Meaning: What will you gain by changing hostels? A better room and better food, that is all.

Context: A piece of hostel banter from the college portion. The point is that the people around you matter more than the room you live in.

9. “Yeh kaam bhi kitni chalu cheez hai na. Jab kaam ko time chahiye hota hai, toh family adjust karti hai.”

Meaning: Work is a sly thing. When work needs time, the family adjusts.

Context: A present-day line about the gap between Anni and Maya. It is about how families quietly pay the price for long working hours.

10. “Kyun, tere baap ne taala laga rakha hai kya?” “Paap lagta hai sir.”

Meaning: “Why, has your father locked it up?” “It is a sin, sir.”

Context: One of the comic exchanges from the hostel years. Varun Sharma and Naveen Polishetty get many of the film’s biggest laughs in these scenes.

11. “Dost wahi jinke saath hum hanste hain, rote hain, par zindagi jeena seekhte hain.”

Meaning: Friends are the ones we laugh and cry with, and they teach us how to live.

Context: A simple line on friendship that fits the film’s ending, where the gang’s old stories help Raghav fight back.

Why Chhichhore dialogues still connect

The lines are short, conversational and written in the way college students actually speak. They mix hostel slang with a serious message, so they never feel like a lecture.

The film’s message about exam stress and suicide is also why it keeps coming up every results season. Nitesh Tiwari, who earlier made Dangal, is now directing the two-part Ramayana with Ranbir Kapoor, with Part One slated for a Diwali 2026 release.
