2. Delhi 6 (2009)
A.R. Rahman and lyricist Prasoon Joshi built an album that sounds like Old Delhi itself. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film about an NRI caught in a communal dispute gave us “Masakali”, “Genda Phool”, “Arziyan” and “Dil Gira Dafatan”. Many fans still rate it among Rahman’s best Hindi work.
3. Udaan (2010)
Vikramaditya Motwani’s coming-of-age drama about a teenager and his strict father had music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. These were never chartbusters in the usual sense, but “Aazaadiyan” and the title track are perfect for the story and have aged beautifully.
4. I Hate Luv Storys (2010)
Punit Malhotra’s rom-com with Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor had songs by Vishal-Shekhar. “Bin Tere”, “Jab Mila Tu”, “Bahara” and “Sadka” made it one of the most played youth albums of its year.
5. Rockstar (2011)
Ranbir Kapoor’s Jordan needed music that could carry an entire film, and A.R. Rahman delivered. With Irshad Kamil’s lyrics and Mohit Chauhan’s voice, “Kun Faya Kun”, “Nadaan Parindey”, “Phir Se Ud Chala”, “Jo Bhi Main” and “Sadda Haq” made this the defining Hindi album of the decade for many listeners.

6. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara (2011)
Zoya Akhtar’s road-trip film about three friends in Spain had music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. “Senorita”, “Ik Junoon”, “Khaabon Ke Parindey” and “Sooraj Ki Baahon Mein” are still the soundtrack of every friends’ trip.
7. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
Ayan Mukerji’s film with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone had Pritam at his commercial peak. “Badtameez Dil”, “Balam Pichkari”, “Dilliwaali Girlfriend”, “Subhanallah”, “Ilahi” and “Kabira” mean this album covers Holi, weddings and heartbreak in one go.
8. Hasee Toh Phasee (2014)
Vinil Mathew’s quirky romance with Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra had songs by Vishal-Shekhar and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kumaar. “Zehnaseeb”, “Manchala”, “Ishq Bulaava” and “Drama Queen” are gentle, likeable tracks that suit the film’s mood.
9. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
Karan Johar’s story of one-sided love, with Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, reunited Pritam and Amitabh Bhattacharya. “Channa Mereya” and “Bulleya” are now heartbreak standards, while “The Breakup Song” and “Cutiepie” became party staples.
10. Gully Boy (2019)
Zoya Akhtar’s film about a Mumbai street rapper, played by Ranveer Singh, brought desi hip-hop into the mainstream. Ankur Tewari supervised an album that featured real rappers such as Divine and Naezy. “Apna Time Aayega”, “Mere Gully Mein”, “Asli Hip Hop” and “Azadi” became anthems.
