1. Padosan
Directed by Jyoti Swaroop and written by Rajendra Krishan, this 1960s musical comedy follows the story of a man named Bhola who falls in love with his neighbor Bindu and asks his friend who has a knack for music to help him.
Considered one of the best comedies of all time, Padosan is further enhanced by Mehmood and Sunil Dutt’s remarkable performances. Also, praise-worthy is Kishore Kumar’s supporting role in the movie.
2. Satte Pe Satta
Directed by Raj N. Sippy, Satte Pe Satta has an ensemble cast featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Ranjeeta Kaur, and Amjad Khan in the pivotal roles.
The action-comedy follows the story of seven brothers living in a farmhouse, each named after the days of a week.
There is a lot of drama, comedy, and action as the seven brothers, uneducated and orphans meet several people in their journey.
3. Bawarchi
The title literally translates to a chef and this 1972 film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee is a story of the Sharma family who is looking for a cook but no one is ready to work in the dysfunctional family until Raghu agrees to accept the job.
A string of events leads to the disappearance of their jeweler along with Raghu. Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Badhuri give excellent performances in this movie.
4. Gol Maal
No guys, this is not our gol maal with Ajay Devgan. Another comedy created by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, this one stars Amol Parekar, Utpal Dutt, Manju Singh, and David.
It is a comedy following Ramprasad who works for Bhavani and has to lie to her as she discourages his hobbies. It received praise and numerous recognition during that time.
5. Bombay to Goa
Bombay to Goa features a stellar cast with Amitabh Bachchan, Kishore Kumar, Anwar Ali, Mehmood, and Aruna Irani.
It revolves around a woman Mala who witnesses a murder and catches a bus to Goa where she meets people from different backgrounds and a man who won’t leave her side.
The movie was directed by S. Ramanathan and received praise at the time of its release.
6. Chameli ki Shaadi
One of Basu Chatterjee’s most famous creations, this romantic-comedy stars Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh.
Becoming a cult classic over the years, Chameli ki Shaadi performed well at the box office. It follows the story of a wrestler Chandaras and Chameli whose families oppose their bond.
7. Chashme Buddoor
A comedy whose remake by David Dhawan featuring Taapsee Pannu and Ali Zafar, Chashme Buddoor is a story of three male students from Delhi University, two of whom are womanizers and can’t digest seeing their friend attached to a girl who could do anything to win her heart.

8. Chachi 420
Directed by Kamal Haasan, Chachi 420 is a story of a man who dresses up as an old lady to get a job to meet his daughter more often, who is separated from him after his divorce from his wife.

10. Half Ticket
Directed by Kalidas and featuring Madhubala, Kishore Kumar, Pran, and Manorama in the pivotal roles, Half Ticket tells the story of Vijay who decides to get away from his house after his father pressures him to get married.
He runs away to the city of dreams, Mumbai, and pretends to be a child to get the ticket at half price.
