10 most funny Bollywood movies you should watch
1. Gol Maal (1979)
Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s classic stars Amol Palekar in a double act as Ram Prasad and his supposed twin Laxman, with Utpal Dutt as Bhavani Shankar. The film asks how far one harmless lie can go.
The back-and-forth between Utpal Dutt and Amol Palekar makes every scene land. Dina Pathak and Bindiya Goswami add to the fun.
2. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)
Kundan Shah’s satire was made on a shoestring budget and has since become a cult favourite. Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Baswani play Vinod and Sudhir in a satire aimed squarely at corruption.
The cast also includes Om Puri, Satish Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Kaushik and Neena Gupta. Its dark humour about greed and power feels just as relevant today.
3. Chupke Chupke (1975)
Another Hrishikesh Mukherjee gem, with Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore and Om Prakash. The comedy is light, quick and full of wordplay.
It is gentle, clever and clean, the kind of film the whole family can watch together. Dharmendra’s comic timing here surprises first-time viewers.
4. Hera Pheri (2000)
Priyadarshan’s film made Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty) and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal) household names. Tabu, Om Puri and Gulshan Grover round out the cast.
Baburao’s lines are still all over memes and reels. A third film, Hera Pheri 3, has been in the works for years. Priyadarshan was confirmed as director in January 2025. Paresh Rawal announced his exit in May 2025, but Priyadarshan said in July 2025 that the issue had been resolved. No release date has been announced.
5. Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003)
Rajkumar Hirani’s debut stars Sanjay Dutt as Murli Prasad Sharma, better known as Munna Bhai, with Arshad Warsi as his loyal sidekick Circuit. Boman Irani plays Dr. J.C. Asthana, and Sunil Dutt plays Munna’s father.
The film is funny and warm at the same time. Sanjay Dutt’s performance was key to its success, and the sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai continued the story.

6. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
Rajkumar Santoshi’s comedy is hard to summarise, which is part of its charm. Aamir Khan plays the slacker Amar and Salman Khan plays Prem, with Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor in the lead cast.
Paresh Rawal plays a double role as Ram Gopal Bajaj and Shyam Gopal Bajaj, and Shakti Kapoor’s Crime Master Gogo is one of Hindi cinema’s most loved comic villains.
7. Padosan (1968)
Jyoti Swaroop’s musical comedy stars Sunil Dutt as Bhola and Saira Banu as Bindu, the padosan of the title. Kishore Kumar plays Vidyapati, known as Guru, and Mehmood plays Master Pillai.
Kishore Kumar, famous as both a comedian and a singer, steals the film. Its music and comedy are so tightly mixed that the songs are as funny as the scenes.
8. Half Ticket (1962)
Directed by Kalidas, Half Ticket stars Kishore Kumar opposite Madhubala, with Pran in a double role. Kishore Kumar plays more than one part, and Shammi, Manorama and Helen also appear.
It is pure slapstick, and it shows why Kishore Kumar was one of the most fearless comic actors of his time.
9. Dulhe Raja (1998)
Harmesh Malhotra’s film pairs Govinda as Raja with Raveena Tandon as Kiran Singhania. Kader Khan plays her father, K.K. Singhania, and Johny Lever and Asrani add to the madness.
The Govinda and Kader Khan scenes are the highlight. The film is not streaming in India right now; it was last on Prime Video until June 2023.
10. Raja Babu (1994)
David Dhawan’s Raja Babu stars Govinda in the title role, with Karisma Kapoor as Madhu and Shakti Kapoor as Nandu. Kader Khan, Aruna Irani, Prem Chopra and Gulshan Grover complete the cast.
It is loud and broad, but that is the point. Govinda and David Dhawan were at their peak as a comedy team in the 1990s.
New pick for 2026: Stree 2 (2024)
For a recent comedy, try Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2. It brings back Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana, in this sequel to Stree, with Tamannaah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan also in the cast. It streams on Prime Video in India.
