Amazon Prime Video plans and prices

In India, Prime Video comes with an Amazon Prime membership, which also includes delivery and shopping benefits. Based on Amazon’s membership page as read on 31 August 2026 by the deals site Zoutons, the plans are:

  • Prime, Rs 299 a month or Rs 1,499 a year: Prime Video up to 4K on mobile, TV and laptop. Twelve monthly payments add up to Rs 3,588, more than double the yearly price.
  • Prime Lite, Rs 799 a year: Prime Video in 720p on one device at a time, with ads.
  • Prime Shopping Edition, Rs 399 a year: a shopping-focused tier.

Prime Video in India started showing ads in June 2025. Amazon offers an ad-free add-on at Rs 129 a month or Rs 699 a year, available to full Prime members. Lite members have to upgrade to Prime before they can buy it.

Best for: households that already shop on Amazon, since the video service comes bundled with the membership.

SonyLIV plans and prices

SonyLIV lists three plans for India on its help centre:

  • Mobile Only, Rs 699 a year: Android and iOS apps only, up to 720p, one stream.
  • LIV Premium monthly, Rs 399: all platforms, up to 4K, one stream.
  • LIV Premium yearly, Rs 1,499: all platforms, up to 4K, two streams.

Ads appear on sports, LIV exclusives, reality shows, fiction shows and interactive content, even on Premium. The monthly Premium plan is the most expensive monthly option after Netflix Standard and Premium, so the yearly plan is much better value at about Rs 125 a month.

Best for: Sony TV shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, which streams on SonyLIV at the time of writing (October 2026), along with sports and SonyLIV originals.

ZEE5 plans and prices

ZEE5’s help centre lists an All Access plan, which includes movies, series, live TV and kids’ content, at Rs 299 for one month (one device, with ads) and Rs 1,499 for 12 months (three devices, limited ads), both up to 4K. It also lists language packs; the Hindi, Punjabi and Bhojpuri pack is Rs 199 a month or Rs 999 a year.

The help centre page does not carry a date, and third-party listings in 2026 show other ZEE5 prices and frequent discounts. Check the plan screen in the ZEE5 app before paying, as the price shown there is the one that applies.

Best for: Zee TV shows, regional films and live Zee channels.

Which OTT plan is cheapest in India?

Ranked by effective monthly cost on the longest billing period offered, the order is:

  1. JioHotstar Mobile yearly: about Rs 42 a month (Rs 499 a year)
  2. SonyLIV Mobile Only yearly: about Rs 58 a month (Rs 699 a year)
  3. Amazon Prime Lite yearly: about Rs 67 a month (Rs 799 a year)
  4. JioHotstar Super yearly: about Rs 92 a month (Rs 1,099 a year)
  5. Amazon Prime, SonyLIV Premium and ZEE5 All Access yearly: about Rs 125 a month (Rs 1,499 a year each)
  6. Netflix Mobile: Rs 149 a month, with no yearly option

For watching on a TV, the cheapest options are JioHotstar Super at Rs 149 a month and Netflix Basic at Rs 199 a month.

How to save money on OTT subscriptions

  1. Pay yearly for services you use all year. The yearly Prime plan saves over Rs 2,000 compared with paying monthly for 12 months.
  2. Rotate monthly plans. Subscribe to one service for a month, finish the shows you want, cancel, then move to the next. Netflix, JioHotstar and SonyLIV all have monthly options.
  3. Check your mobile and broadband plan. Telecom and broadband operators often bundle one or more OTT services. Look at your current plan before paying for the same service twice.
  4. Match screens to your household. Paying for four screens makes sense only if four people watch at the same time.
  5. Turn off auto-renew for trial-style offers. Discounted first periods usually renew at the full price.

Long binge sessions on a phone or laptop are also a good reason to wear blue-light glasses, and Indian brands like Rawbare make frames for screen use.

Netflix vs JioHotstar vs Prime Video: which one to pick

Pick JioHotstar if live cricket and Indian TV matter most. Pick Netflix if you mostly watch international originals and want a clean, ad-free experience. Pick Amazon Prime if you already order on Amazon, as the yearly membership covers both shopping and video. SonyLIV suits viewers of Sony shows and sports, and ZEE5 suits viewers of Zee shows and regional content. Fans of Hindi legal dramas can see our guide to courtroom drama movies and series spread across these platforms.
