Stranger Things 4 received high viewership and worldwide critical acclaim for the fourth season. A crucial reason for this is the more intense and darker plot The Duffer Brothers designed for this season combined with cinematography and the addition of various talents into the series.
The visual effects used in the sci-fi series were tried to be created through real-life props rather than computer-generated ones.
A striking example of it was the humanoid being, Vecna, whose look was delivered by Barrie Gower known for his work in Chornobyl and Games of Thrones.
On all the fronts pertained to the aspects of production, Stranger Things 4 has been successful in providing the best-ever season of this series.
Joyce and Hopper finally reunited but there are still several questions- What are the Russians planning? How will Joyce and Hopper get out? How will they escape Russia? Are the Russians aware of Vecna?
Anyway, to save Steve from barbaric bat-like creatures of the other dimension, Robin, Eddie, and Nancy jump into the portal. There is blood, Steve is injured and Nancy can’t help but be worried for him. Thus, the sparks are all over, further magnified by Eddie and Robin.
Nancy goes to her own house but in the other dimension to seize the guns and get away but she realizes that the guns aren’t there as they are in the Upside-Down but during the past.
Somehow, Dustin establishes communication with them and helps them to come back to their world. However, Nancy is unable to escape and Vecna takes her on this story-telling trip where he shows that it was Victor Creel’s son who murdered everyone and developed the ability to kill people through his mind.
While Eleven finally comes to terms with her traumatic memories associated with his bullies getting punished and the guard confessing that Brenner actually wants to kill Eleven. He shows her a path to flee.
To pay back to him, Eleven removes the chip from his neck. A string of events leads to the orderly chasing the two and Eleven hides inside a room only to come out and realize that it was the guard who was behind the massacre.
So it happens that 001 and the Guard are the same people and thus takes place the battle between 011 and 001. Somehow Eleven opens a portal and sends 001 to the Upside-Down where he God-knows-how transforms into Vecna.
Why did Vecna play his story in front of Nancy? Why did the gang go back in time? Was Vecna present from the beginning? How will Nancy escape now?
How will the kids prove their innocence to the police? Will the U.S Army reach the laboratory? Whose side is Dr. Brenner?
The Duffer Brothers basically opened up several mysteries together and connected none of them, leaving it all for the next volume.
Stephen King voiced the entire fandom’s opinion when he said distributing the season into two volumes was a terrible decision.
Jonathan, Mike, and Will were practically absent from this volume. They may have a part to play with Wallace telling where the Nina Project is to the US Army and Suzie discovers the same as well.
Jamie Campbell Bower gave an exceptional performance as 001. Nobody could have done the job better. Eddie Munson’s role as a weirdo was not an easy one to play but Joseph Quinn stands out with his part.
Stranger Things 4 gave us what we needed however overstuffed it might have been. For sure mystery, suspense and horror are a big part of sci-fi, but the characters are equally important. We are hoping that the creators reunite the gang before something terrible happens.
As there is another season ahead, the fifth and the final, we are hoping that the creators do not decide to make it a painful journey with one of our favorite teens leaving in the middle.
