The previous episode peeked into the world of Chrissy. She had been facing troubles and acting strange which she tried to stop by taking weeds from Eddie. It was apparent that the creatures of Upside Down had arrived in the town and back in the game.
The storyline and scenes are outlined in a manner that does not downplay any of the roles. While Millie Bobby Brown or Winona Ryder might have the fame they received through other ventures, the directors did not allow all the attention to fall on them.
Grace Van Dien joins the team but only for a short period. Chrissy Cunningham’s death once again shakes Hawkins from its very core.
As her corpse was found in Eddie Munson’s trailer, the police make him a suspect, and Jason, Chrissy’s boyfriend, teams up with the basketball team to hunt down Eddie. Meanwhile, Eddie is not in a good condition himself, incapable of believing what he saw.
Lucas is confused as he was mindful of the fact that Dustin and Mike were in Eddie’s club. However, to stick to the “cool gang”, he keeps quiet.
Dustin and Max team up to find Eddie and learn about the truth from him. Robin and Steve, now working in Family Video, also joins, being the babysitters this time as well.
Nancy along with her partner in Hawkins High Newspaper plays their own investigator role. It is palpable that Fred has been facing issues as well and it finally culminates in his death at the end of the second episode with the same grandfather clock that Chrissy had been seeing.
The most significant factor of this episode is the beginning of the massacre, the realization that Eleven lost her powers and the team once again taking the role of detectives in Hawkins to uncover the dark energies from the other dimension whilst trying to solve their internal problems.
Eleven has been lying to Mike to not feel embarrassed in front of him. Their relationship strains further when Eleven realizes that Mike never confessed his love.
The tension between Mike and Eleven begins to amplify as she was unable to hold herself back after getting painfully bullied by Angela and her gang.
She hits Angela with her skates and feels ashamed of her actions afterward. While Will feels like a third-wheeler when he noticed the growing distance between him and Mike.
Murray and Joyce are working on their own mission to go to Alaska to give the bribe for Hopper, who has been working as prison labor in Kamchatka after the Russians realized his strength and resilience. He tempted Enzo, a prison guard, with money to finally escape Russia.
The story of Chrissy’s death has been narrated by two characters, Eddie and Eddie’s uncle. Eddie’s uncle remembers the famous story of Victor Creel, who apparently killed his two children and wife in the same way that Chrissy died.
He tells Nancy that Creel is now in the Asylum. Meanwhile, Eddie explained that Chrissy was in a trance-like state which almost felt like wizardry.
The episode ends with Fred’s death as Vecna finally follows the remorse inside Fred and overpowers him with the demons living inside him. The entire episode right till the end was interesting building the story up perfectly but never once leaving any room for prediction.
If there are two aspects that Stranger Things makers have been able to handle deftly till now, it is the mixture of a coming-of-age and horror-thriller in just the right proportion and the concentration on different characters allowing them to shine in their own ways.
