The villains defeated by teamwork in Harry Potter include Voldemort, Peter Pettigrew, Dolores Umbridge, the Basilisk, the Carrows and Fenrir Greyback. Harry gets the credit, but in almost every big win Ron, Hermione, Neville, Luna, Dobby, Fawkes or a Hogwarts teacher does part of the job. Here are 10 such cases, from the books and films.
J.K. Rowling’s series is often read as one boy’s fight against a dark wizard. Read it again and a different pattern shows up: Harry rarely wins alone. His friends, a house-elf, a phoenix and even a herd of centaurs keep turning the fight.

10 villains defeated by teamwork in Harry Potter
1. The mountain troll (Philosopher’s Stone)
The first real fight of the series is a team effort. Harry and Ron go after the troll to save Hermione in the girls’ bathroom on Halloween. Harry jumps on its back, and Ron knocks it out with its own club using the Levitation Charm Hermione had corrected that very day.
The troll is not a villain in the usual sense, but this fight is the reason the three become friends. Every later win starts here.
2. Lucius Malfoy (Chamber of Secrets)
Lucius slips Tom Riddle’s diary into Ginny Weasley’s cauldron, a plan that could have ruined Arthur Weasley and shut down Hogwarts. Harry exposes him in Dumbledore’s office, but the trick that sets Dobby free needs Dobby to play along. Harry hides his sock in the diary, Lucius tosses it, Dobby catches it and becomes a free elf.
When Lucius turns on Harry, it is Dobby who throws him across the corridor. Without the elf, Harry has no defence there.
3. The Basilisk (Chamber of Secrets)
Harry kills the Basilisk with the Sword of Gryffindor, but he could not have done it alone. Fawkes, Dumbledore’s phoenix, blinds the snake so its stare cannot kill. The Sorting Hat delivers the sword. When the fang pierces Harry’s arm, Fawkes’s tears heal him.
That Basilisk fang later becomes a weapon against Voldemort himself, which makes this one of the most important wins in the series.
4. Dolores Umbridge (Order of the Phoenix)
Umbridge runs Hogwarts like a prison through most of the fifth book. Her fall comes from Hermione’s quick thinking, not a duel. Hermione lies that Dumbledore has hidden a secret weapon in the Forbidden Forest and leads Umbridge into it.
There, Umbridge insults the centaurs and attacks one of them. The herd carries her away, and a centaur snaps her wand. Harry barely lifts his own wand in this victory.
5. Severus Snape (Order and Deathly Hallows)
Snape is not a true villain, as the final book reveals, but for most of the series he is treated as one. In Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry, Ron and Hermione all fire Disarming Charms at him at the same time in the Shrieking Shack and knock him out.
In Deathly Hallows, McGonagall duels Snape, other teachers join her, and he flees Hogwarts as headmaster. Again, no single person does it.
6. The Dementors (Battle of Hogwarts)
During the Battle of Hogwarts, Ron and Hermione’s Patronuses flicker out when the Dementors close in. Luna, Ernie Macmillan and Seamus Finnigan step in with a hare, a boar and a fox. That gives Harry the push he needs to cast his stag, and the Dementors scatter.
It is a small scene, but it shows the whole idea of the book: the students fight as one group.
7. Fenrir Greyback (Battle of Hogwarts)
The werewolf is one of the most feared Death Eaters. In the book, Hermione blasts him away from Lavender Brown, and Professor Trelawney then drops a crystal ball on his head. Later in the Great Hall, Ron and Neville bring him down.
Three people, two of them teenagers, end the career of a man who scared grown wizards.
8. The Carrows (Deathly Hallows)
Amycus and Alecto Carrow rule Hogwarts with cruelty in the final book. In Ravenclaw Tower, Luna stuns Alecto. Amycus spits in McGonagall’s face, Harry throws him against the wall with a curse, and McGonagall then ties both siblings up in a net hanging from the ceiling.
Neither Carrow takes part in the Battle of Hogwarts. Neville and the rebel students had already spent the year resisting them.
9. Peter Pettigrew (Deathly Hallows)
In the Malfoy Manor cellar, Ron and Harry tackle Wormtail and Ron takes his wand. When Pettigrew starts choking Harry, Harry reminds him that he owes him his life. Pettigrew hesitates, and the silver hand Voldemort gave him turns on him and strangles him.
The films change this. Pettigrew is not killed by his hand on screen, and his fate is left unclear after Dobby’s rescue at the Manor.
10. Lord Voldemort (Deathly Hallows)
Harry casts the final spell, but Voldemort is beaten by a team. Hermione destroys Hufflepuff’s cup with a Basilisk fang after Ron opens the Chamber of Secrets. Ravenclaw’s diadem is destroyed by Crabbe’s own Fiendfyre in the Room of Requirement.
The last Horcrux, the snake Nagini, falls to Neville, who cuts off her head with the Sword of Gryffindor in front of Voldemort. Only then can Harry finish the job. Dumbledore’s planning, Snape’s memories and Lily’s protection all play a part too.
