It is no news for all of us that some few days back Kangana Ranaut called Urmila Matondkar a soft porn star in an interview. Where people from the industry and among the netizens supported her, a lot of them also supported Kangana’s statement and referred to Urmila as a soft porn star. But no matter how hard few people try to malign the image of Urmila Matondkar by calling her a soft porn star, we knew this right from her first appearance as a child artist in the iconic film, Masoom, that she will have us awestruck with her performances to come.

All through her career in Bollywood, Urmila has been one of the best dancing divas in films from the 90s. She was a rock-solid performer who has proved her versatility in acting from romance to comedy, to thrillers to horrors. Nobody can deny the fact that her skills have been unmatched during the time she had a popular run in Bollywood, giving tough competition to other actresses.

The film throughout belonged to Urmila because her character of a married woman being possessed by a spirit of another young woman in a flat had sent the screen under scary overtones, which wasn’t that easy for a soft-hearted viewer to survive till the end. The scenes depicting her possession were trembling as well as astounding that won’t allow anything goes down your throat easily. The critics had praised Urmila’s acting and didn’t even hesitate to say that if this performance couldn’t get an award then no other performance should get one. If you’re a horror lover then you must watch this film. It’s available on Netflix, just like Ek Hasina Thi.

  1. Puro of Pinjar (2003)
Urmila

The movie is set in the time of world’s dreadful partition of 1947, sending out the picture of tensions between Hindus and Muslims. Urmila played the role of Puro, a Hindu girl abducted by a Muslim guy who had set off to avenge the wrongs her ancestors did to his family in the past. Her acting was praised across the board for very well presenting the travails of Puro during the time when people became migrants to cross over to their designated lands and met with misfortunes. The film was made on a Punjabi novel of the same name, written by Amrita Pritam. Highly impressed with the execution of the story and performances of the lead actors, even Pakistani makers went ahead remaking the film into their popular drama called ‘Ghughi’.
