A Delhi Executive Magistrate on Sunday, October 11, 2026, ordered the release of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. The three had been detained a day earlier, ahead of the party’s protest at Jantar Mantar.
Condition: no breach of peace for one year
CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh announced the order on X. According to her, the leaders were released on the condition that they do not breach the peace for one year.

How the leaders were detained
Delhi Police detained the three on Saturday soon after their flight from Bengaluru landed in Delhi. They were placed under preventive arrest and produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment police station on Sunday morning.
Police invoked two sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS):
- Section 126: allows an Executive Magistrate to require a person likely to breach the peace to execute a bond for up to one year
- Section 170: allows police to arrest a person without a warrant to prevent a cognisable offence
What the CJP is protesting
The CJP protest seeks the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Delhi Police had denied permission for the demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
Thousands of protesters were detained across Delhi on Saturday. Former chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar were among those detained while trying to join the protest. YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, detained at his Gurugram home on Saturday, was released around 3 am on Sunday.

The protest entered its second day on Sunday. The CJP has said it will continue its demonstrations until its demands are met, while police have warned of action against anyone who violates prohibitory orders at Jantar Mantar.
