A woman allegedly tried to attack former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee near her Kalighat residence in Kolkata on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2026. She was stopped by Banerjee’s security personnel and detained, according to reports.

What happened at Kalighat
The incident took place at around 6 pm as Banerjee was walking to inaugurate a Durga Puja at a pandal in the same lane as her home, according to Bengali news outlet Ei Muhurte. Several people were with her at the time.

The woman reportedly pushed her way through the crowd towards Banerjee and hurled abuses before security personnel overpowered her. She was then taken to Kalighat police station for questioning. ABP Ananda reported that one person had been arrested.
TMC files police complaint
Trinamool Congress MP Dola Sen filed a police complaint in connection with the incident, news agency IANS reported. In the complaint, shared on X by TMC MP Saket Gokhale, the party alleged that the woman came with a knife, acted in a violent manner and tried to approach Banerjee.
The complaint also raised concerns that the woman was able to get close to Banerjee’s residence despite her Z-plus category security. It asked police to register the information as a cognisable offence under Section 173 of the BNSS.
Saket Gokhale wrote on X that the incident showed that “even a Z+ protectee & 3-time CM is not safe” and questioned whether it was a planned conspiracy.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee visited Mamata Banerjee’s residence later in the evening.
