Rishikesh became prominent worldwide particularly in the 1960s when the English rock band, The Beatles, visited the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi here. Today the place is popularly known as the Beatles Ashram which attracts tourists from around the world.

Rishikesh is also known as the ‘Yoga Capital of The World’ and the international yoga festival is held here in the first week of March every year which sees yoga lovers from every part of the world.

The town holds a lot of importance to Hindus as it is situated on the banks of the holy river Ganga.

Apart from being one of the holiest places in Hinduism, Rishikesh is also known for its adventure activities. The place has seen a spike in tourists’ footfall in recent years due to an increase in adventure sports here.

It includes river rafting, zip-lining, flying fox, camping, cliff jumping, and whatnot. In fact, Rishikesh is the only place in North India where you can find bungee jumping.

Rishikesh is known as the best place for river rafting in India. Known as White Water Rafting here, this sport will test you against the treacherous waves of the river.

If you do not like water a lot and want to keep your feet on the ground, then camping is the option for you. The experience of staying, right between the alluring meadows, verdant suburbs, and a fresh breeze is just one-of-its-kind and worth a try. Such an experience would put a big city’s luxury to shame.

If you are planning a trip to this sacred land, you cannot afford to miss bungee jumping at all. Mohan Chatti is the oldest jumping spot here and the jumping platform is a staggering 83 meters high.

Considering the safety of the people, the jump can only be tried out by people in the age group of 18-60, who don’t have fear of heights or any other serious illness.
