His representatives confirmed that he died on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas. They said his death was a suicide. A local justice of the peace told the Associated Press that an autopsy will be performed.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his representatives said in a statement. They asked for privacy for the family. Details of a memorial service have not been announced.
