10 best street food places in Mumbai

1. Anand Stall, Vile Parle

When in Mumbai, eat like the Mumbaikars do, and that means vada pav. Anand Stall is a favourite with office workers and college students in Vile Parle.

Go beyond the plain version and try the cheese, butter, samosa or grilled vada pav. It is cheap, quick and filling.

2. Noor Mohammadi, Bhendi Bazaar

Bhendi Bazaar is one of the city’s best areas for non-vegetarian street food, and Noor Mohammadi is a big name here. It is best known for its white biryani.

Plan a visit during Ramzan, when the area’s food scene is at its liveliest.

3. K. Rustom Ice Cream, Churchgate

K. Rustom serves slabs of ice cream between two wafers, in a long list of flavours. It is a simple idea, and it works.

It makes a good sweet stop after a walk along Marine Drive.

4. Farid Seekh Kebab, Jogeshwari

Soft, smoky seekh kebabs served with buttery parathas, at prices that suit a student budget. It is a must for kebab lovers in the western suburbs.

5. Amar Juice Center, Vile Parle

Despite the name, Amar Juice Center is famous for pav bhaji, with more than 15 varieties on the menu. Its misal pav is also worth trying if you like heat.

It costs a little more than a typical street stall, but the portions and range make up for it.

6. Raju Sandwich Stall, Churchgate

Located near H.R. College, this stall is a student favourite for the classic Bombay sandwich: layers of vegetables and green mint chutney in buttered, toasted bread.

7. Sardar Pav Bhaji, Tardeo

Sardar is one of the most famous names for pav bhaji in the city, known for its generous use of butter on both the bhaji and the pav. The nearest station is Mumbai Central.

Go hungry; the portions are generous.

8. Kapoor Kulfi, Marine Lines

Kapoor Kulfi offers many flavours, from rich dry fruit to sugar-free options. If you only try one, make it the classic malai kulfi.

9. Gulshan-e-Iran, Crawford Market

Near Crawford Market, Gulshan-e-Iran serves hearty Mughlai food. The kheema pav is the dish to order, especially for a filling breakfast before shopping in the market.

10. Subhash Sandwich Stall

Subhash is known for its over-the-top chocolate ice cream sandwich, made with Nutella and Hershey’s. It is messy, sweet and very much a treat-day order.

Plan a Mumbai street food trail

You can cover most of this list in two outings. For a South Mumbai trail, start at Churchgate with Raju’s sandwich and a K. Rustom ice cream, walk to Kapoor Kulfi at Marine Lines, then head to Gulshan-e-Iran near Crawford Market and end in Bhendi Bazaar at Noor Mohammadi.

For a western suburbs trail, pair Anand Stall and Amar Juice Center in Vile Parle, then finish with kebabs at Farid in Jogeshwari.

Tips for eating street food in Mumbai

  • Go where it is busy: high turnover means fresher food.
  • Carry cash and UPI: most stalls accept UPI, but small change still helps.
  • Watch the water: drink sealed bottled water and be careful with ice and chutneys in the monsoon.
  • Use local trains: many of these spots are close to Western and Central line stations.
  • Check timings: stall hours change, so check recent reviews before a long trip.
