1. The Mitchells vs. The Machines (2021)
A dysfunctional family’s road trip gets caught up in a global robot uprising. Directed by Michael Rianda, the film has a fast, clever script, outrageous humour and striking animation. Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph and Olivia Colman lead the voice cast. It is funny for adults and kids, and it has real heart under the jokes.
2. She’s Gotta Have It (1986)
Spike Lee’s comedy-drama follows Nola Darling (Tracy Camilla Johns), who juggles three romantic relationships at once. Tommy Redmond Hicks, John Canada Terrell and Lee himself, as Mars Blackmon, play the men in her life. The film uses direct-to-camera interviews and breaks the fourth wall, and it touches on love, identity, race, gender and class with a light touch. It is on Netflix India in 4K.
3. Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)
Adam Sandler returns as Happy Gilmore, nearly 30 years after his first tournament. This time Happy goes back to golf to pay for his daughter’s ballet lessons and finds a sport now run by influencers and polished sponsors. Christopher McDonald is back as Shooter McGavin, with Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller and Bad Bunny in the cast. Directed by Kyle Newacheck, it is pure nostalgia comedy.
4. Toaster (2026)
Rajkummar Rao plays Ramakant, a stingy wedding guest who wants his gift back after his friend’s marriage falls apart. His cheap little plan drops him into a murder investigation. Sanya Malhotra, Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Seema Pahwa and Farah Khan co-star. Rao also produced the film, which runs about two hours and is one of Netflix India’s newest Hindi comedies.
5. Murder Mystery 2 (2023)
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston return as Nick and Audrey Spitz, who have now opened their own detective agency. When a billionaire friend is kidnapped at his own wedding, they get the big case they wanted. Mark Strong, Mélanie Laurent and Adeel Akhtar join in. At 91 minutes, it is an easy, silly watch for a weekend.
6. Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023)
Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Adarsh Gourav play three best friends trying to deal with love, careers and heartbreak while social media shapes how they see themselves. Kalki Koechlin plays a supporting role. Directed by Arjun Varain Singh, it is a light comedy-drama with sharp observations about life online.
