Mismatched season 2 episode 2, “Girl in the Middle”, is all about jealousy. The plot is predictable, but Prajakta Koli and Vihaan Samat’s chemistry keeps it watchable.

Rishi and Namrata return to campus

Rishi (Rohit Saraf) and his best friend Namrata (Devyani Shorey) are back at the summer programme. Namrata is singled out by classmates over her gender identity, and the episode does not soften how hurtful it is.

Rishi, meanwhile, spots Dimple (Prajakta Koli) and Harsh (Vihaan Samat) together. He reads it as his cue to move closer to Sanskriti (Sanjana Sarathy). The jealousy game has started.

Sid Sir introduces Ayesha

Sid Sir (Rannvijay Singha) introduces Ayesha Duggirala (Priya Banerjee), a startup founder who will mentor the students on their apps. She quickly becomes important to Namrata. Celina (Muskkaan Jaferi), Namrata’s former love interest, finds it hard to accept the possible spark between the two.

Anmol in counselling

Anmol (Taaruk Raina) has been sent to a counsellor for his anger. Once the football team’s leader, he now uses a wheelchair, and the show handles his frustration and guilt with care. He remains one of the series’ most layered characters.

Simran and Krish

Simran (Kritika Bharadwaj) gets a “size zero” dress from her boyfriend Krish (Abhinav Sharma). The gift feeds her insecurity and starts her slide into an eating disorder. The episode also shows the pressure Krish puts on her to get physically closer before she is ready.

Hunting the Antisosh thief

Dimple and Harsh hack into students’ laptops to find out who stole their Antisosh app. Rishi starts his own investigation, while Krish and Simran come up with a plan of their own.

Dimple’s birthday

Harsh takes Dimple to a music event at a hotel owned by Rishi’s family, the Shekhawats. It is also her birthday. Rishi sees the two of them together, and the episode ends with the love triangle clearly in place.

Review: clichéd plot, great chemistry

“Girl in the Middle” plays like a teen novel. The jealousy plot is obvious from the first few minutes, and some scenes feel repetitive. It is a missed chance to push the more interesting threads, like Namrata’s story and Simran’s eating disorder, further.

Still, the episode is fun to watch. The campus setting brings back college nostalgia, the coming-of-age themes land, and Prajakta Koli and Vihaan Samat have easy chemistry that makes Rishi’s jealousy believable. What works and what does not

The episode is strongest when it slows down. Anmol’s counselling scenes and Namrata’s quiet moments with Ayesha feel real, and both actors underplay them well. These are the parts viewers tend to remember from the season.

It is weakest when it leans on coincidence. Rishi happening to see Dimple and Harsh together at exactly the wrong moment is a device the show uses more than once. The hacking subplot also moves too fast to feel believable.

If you enjoyed season 1 for its romance, this episode gives you plenty of it. If you came for the tech-campus angle, you may find the app storyline thin in this episode.

Overall, “Girl in the Middle” is a setup episode. It puts every relationship on the board, introduces Ayesha and plants the conflicts the rest of season 2 builds on. Watch it for the cast, not for surprises.
