1. Falcon Supernova iPhone 6 Pink Diamond ($48.5 million)
The top spot goes to an iPhone 6 with a 24-carat gold coating and a large emerald-cut pink diamond set into the back. Inside, it is still an ageing iPhone 6. Nearly all of its value comes from the stone, which makes it more a piece of jewellery than a phone.
2. iPhone 5 Black Diamond ($15 million)
British designer Stuart Hughes made this one-off in 2012. A 26-carat black diamond replaces the home button, the chassis is solid 24-carat gold, around 600 white diamonds line the edges and the screen is sapphire. It reportedly took nine weeks to handcraft.
3. iPhone 4s Elite Gold ($9.4 million)
Another Stuart Hughes creation. It has a rose gold bezel with 500 diamonds totalling over 100 carats, a solid 24-carat gold back and a platinum Apple logo set with 53 diamonds. It comes in a platinum chest that includes a piece of T-Rex bone, opal and charoite.
4. iPhone 4 Diamond Rose ($8 million)
Hughes again, this time with a rose gold bezel set with 500 flawless diamonds and a 7.4-carat pink diamond as the home button. It comes in a granite chest lined with Nubuck leather. Only two were produced.
5. Goldstriker iPhone 3GS Supreme ($3.2 million)
This iPhone 3GS has a casing made from 271 grams of 22-carat gold, a bezel with 136 diamonds and a 7.1-carat diamond home button. It is delivered in a 7 kg chest made of Kashmir gold granite. The design and build reportedly took ten months.
6. iPhone 3G Kings Button ($2.5 million)
An iPhone 3G with a gold casing and a home button set with a large diamond. Reported as a 2008 build, it is one of the oldest entries in the “jewelled iPhone” group that the higher entries on this list took much further.
7. Diamond Crypto Smartphone ($1.3 million)
Unlike the iPhones on this list, this is its own handset. It has a solid platinum frame, a rose gold logo and navigation key, and 50 diamonds, ten of them blue. It runs Windows Embedded Compact and was marketed with built-in encryption for secure calls.
8. Goldvish Le Million ($1 million)
A boomerang-shaped phone made of 18-carat white gold and 120 carats of VVS-1 diamonds. It entered Guinness World Records as the most expensive phone of its time, and only three were made.
9. Gresso Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot ($1 million)
Gresso made just three of these. The phone features black diamonds and keys made from sapphire, and its rarity is a big part of its price.
10. Goldvish Revolution ($488,150)
This phone combines gold and diamonds with a detachable mechanical watch, so it doubles as a luxury timepiece. It is the only entry here that also tells the time without a screen.
Why are these phones so expensive?
Three reasons come up again and again:

- Rarity: most are one-offs or limited to two or three pieces.
- Craftsmanship: builds like the Goldstriker 3GS Supreme took months of hand work.
