The best fun websites to visit when you are bored include GeoGuessr, Neal.fun, Mental Floss, Radio Garden and A Soft Murmur. We have refreshed our original list of 10 for 2026, checked that each site still works, and added two newer picks that are worth a bookmark.
Each entry below tells you what the site does and when it is worth opening. All of them work in a phone browser.
12 fun websites to visit in 2026
1. Mental Floss
Website: mentalfloss.com
Mental Floss explains the odd stories behind history, science, language and pop culture. Think short reads on why words mean what they mean, or where a famous tradition came from.
It is a good pick for a 10 minute break, because most articles are quick and easy to finish on a phone.
2. GeoGuessr
Website: geoguessr.com
GeoGuessr drops you at a random Google Street View spot and asks you to guess where on the map you are. The closer your pin, the more points you score.
You read road signs, number plates and even the side of the road cars drive on. The free tier is limited, and unlimited play needs a paid membership, but a few rounds a day are enough to get hooked.
3. Cooking for Engineers
Website: cookingforengineers.com
Cooking for Engineers breaks recipes into step tables, runs kitchen equipment tests and keeps a cooking glossary. The look is deliberately plain and old-school.
Note that the site has not posted much new material since around 2018, so treat it as a useful archive rather than a daily read.
4. Bored Panda
Website: boredpanda.com
Bored Panda collects viral photo lists, art, design, animal stories and internet finds. Readers can vote posts up or down, so the best lists rise quickly.
It is the classic endless-scroll site, so set a timer if you have work to finish.
5. Forgotify
Website: forgotify.com
Forgotify finds Spotify tracks that almost nobody has played and serves you one at random. It is a fun way to discover music outside the usual charts.
The site says it first launched in 2014 and was rebuilt in 2026. Previews work without signing in, and full tracks open in Spotify.

6. CoolThings
Website: coolthings.com
CoolThings posts new gadgets, toys, outdoor gear and gift ideas almost every day. It is still active in 2026, with fresh posts each week.
Use it for gift ideas, or just to see what strange products the world is making.
7. A Soft Murmur
Website: asoftmurmur.com
A Soft Murmur lets you mix ambient sounds like rain, thunder, waves, wind and fire with simple sliders. Many people use it to focus while studying or to fall asleep.
It also has a timer, so the sound fades out when your work session ends.
8. Vsauce
Website: youtube.com/vsauce
Vsauce is Michael Stevens’ popular science and philosophy channel on YouTube. The videos start with a simple question and end up somewhere you did not expect.
There are related channels too, like Vsauce2 and Vsauce3, if you finish the main one.
9. A Good Movie to Watch
Website: agoodmovietowatch.com
A Good Movie to Watch suggests highly rated but lesser known films and shows. You can filter by mood, genre or streaming service.
It saves you the 30 minutes of scrolling through OTT apps before picking something.
10. GIPHY
Website: giphy.com
GIPHY is the biggest library of GIFs and stickers online, sorted by trending posts and categories. Most chat apps already pull GIFs from it.
Meta bought GIPHY in 2020 and sold it to Shutterstock in 2023, and the site continues to run as usual.
11. Neal.fun (new pick)
Website: neal.fun
Neal.fun is Neal Agarwal’s collection of browser games and interactive projects. Infinite Craft, The Password Game and Absurd Trolley Problems all went viral from here.
Every project is free and works in a phone browser. It is easily the best time-killer on this list.
12. Radio Garden (new pick)
Website: radio.garden
Radio Garden shows a globe covered in green dots, each one a live radio station. Spin the globe, tap a dot and you are listening to a station in Kolkata, Lagos or Lima.
It is a simple way to hear what people around the world are listening to right now.

What changed since our first list
All 10 sites from our 2021 list are still online, though a few have changed. GIPHY has a new owner, GeoGuessr now limits free play, and Forgotify has been rebuilt. Cooking for Engineers is now more of an archive than an active site.
We added Neal.fun and Radio Garden because both are free, need no sign-up, and are simple enough for a five minute break.
