Mismatched season 2 episode 1, titled “When Dimple Met Rishi.. Again”, picks up right after the season 1 breakup. Dimple and Harsh grow closer, Rishi learns his mother is remarrying, and the episode ends with Rishi throwing coffee at Dimple. Here is the full recap, what works, and where the Netflix show stands in 2026.
Mismatched is Netflix India’s coming-of-age series based on Sandhya Menon’s novel When Dimple Met Rishi. Created by Gazal Dhaliwal, it stars Prajakta Koli as coder Dimple Ahuja and Rohit Saraf as the hopeless romantic Rishi Singh Shekhawat. Season 2 dropped on 14 October 2022 with eight episodes, directed by Akarsh Khurana with Nipun Dharmadhikari.
Where season 1 left things
Season 1 ended badly for the couple. Dimple’s app idea was stolen, and Rishi found out she had told Celina about Namrata’s secret. The two split, and Dimple kissed her friend Harsh. Season 2 begins at the Aravalli Institute, where the students in the summer programme still have to build and pitch an app.

Mismatched season 2 episode 1 recap
Rishi and Namrata step away
Rishi and Namrata (Devyani Shorey) have left the institute for a while. Back home, Rishi is hit by news that his mother Kalpana (Aditi Govitrikar) is getting remarried, to a man named Randeep (Digvijay Savant). His younger brother Ashish takes it badly. His father (Jugal Hansraj), with whom Rishi already has a tense relationship, reacts recklessly and makes things worse.
Dimple and Harsh deal with the kiss
At Aravalli, Dimple and Harsh Agarwal (Vihaan Samat) are trying to make sense of the kiss. Anmol (Taaruk Raina) and his gang mock Dimple for moving on so soon after Rishi. Meanwhile Celina (Muskkaan Jaferi) is busy trying to convince everyone she is not gay, a thread the season returns to.
Sid Sir piles on the pressure
Professor Siddharth Sinha, or Sid Sir (Rannvijay Singha), is clearly drawn to Zeenat Karim (Vidya Malvade), though both act like nothing is happening. He is hard on Dimple and Harsh, who still have no new app idea after Krish (Abhinav Sharma) and Simran (Kritika Bharadwaj) took their old one with Celina’s help.

Dimple’s panic attack
Sid Sir’s harsh words push Dimple into a severe panic attack, and Harsh helps her calm down. It is the episode’s strongest scene. It also signals that this season wants to talk about anxiety and mental health, not just romance.
A new face: Sanskriti
Rishi meets Sanskriti (Sanjana Sarathy), a photographer mentored by his future stepfather. He is cold to her at first, but the show makes it obvious they will get closer as the season goes on.
Jaipur and the coffee moment
Dimple spends time in Jaipur with Harsh, and their bond grows. Rishi and Namrata then return to the college for their app investment. Rishi sees Dimple hugging Harsh and throws coffee at her. It is a direct callback to season 1, episode 1, where Dimple threw coffee at Rishi when they first met.
Our take on the episode
The opener is watchable but not sharp. The writing leans on familiar beats, and casting Harsh as the guy who keeps rescuing Dimple feels tired. Still, the cast carries it. Prajakta Koli is convincing in the panic attack scene, and Rohit Saraf gives Rishi’s family trouble real weight.
The episode sets up the themes of the season well: anxiety, broken marriages, remarriage and young people making choices their parents do not like. If you liked season 1 for its characters, you will stay. If you wanted a smarter story, this is a slow start.
The episode runs at a gentle pace and spends more time on setting up subplots than on the app competition. The setup gives the remaining seven episodes plenty to work with, so judge the season on more than this opener.
